Ocean Viking
“Bianca Senatore and photographer Pierre Terrace embarked together aboard the Ocean Viking, a repurposed oil and gas cargo ship operated by the humanitarian organisation SOS Méditerranée, which patrols the central Mediterranean Sea conducting rescue operations for migrants attempting to cross to Europe. Many of those found aboard smugglers’ rafts would not have survived the journey without intervention. Senatore and Terrace documented two rescue operations at sea as well as the living conditions on board, capturing the cramped and humble circumstances of those rescued, their expressions of faith and celebration upon leaving Libya, and the moment of arrival at Port Augusta, Sicily, at the end of their long journey.“
