CROATIA/SLOVENIA
“Bianca Senatore travelled alone to document the final stretch of the Balkan migration route along the Croatia-Slovenia border and into Trieste, Italy. The photos capture the liminal existence of migrants paused mid-journey, sheltering in the abandoned train station in Rijeka and passing time on disused tracks while awaiting the chance to continue north, their worn footwear a testament to the distances already covered. Crossing into Italy, Senatore documented the makeshift encampments in the abandoned port silos of Trieste, where migrants light fires to keep warm, as well as the work of Lorena Fornasir and her husband Gian Andrea, who go out every evening to the city’s train station to provide medical care and support to those arriving via the Balkan route through their association Linea d’Ombra.“
