Valentine’s Gift

This is the first Valentine’s Day gift I gave my girlfriend. Before coming here, she asked me to bring it with me so that I could remember some of our beautiful early moments as a couple. I keep it on my desk so I can see it every time I work and remember that back in El Salvador is the woman I love and for whom I try to stay strong while living in this foreign country. It reminds me of how much I love her, of the moments when we have been happiest, and it fills me with longing to share more beautiful moments with her again. It reminds me that even when I sometimes feel alone, our love still prevails across the distance and remains strong.
